Alvaro Retana is an Area Director for the Routing Area of the IETF.[1]

ICANN Involvement[edit | edit source]

Retana has been participating in the IETF since 1998, mainly in the Routing Area. He previously co-chaired the Routing Area Working Group (rtgwg) and the Source Packet Routing in Networking Working Group (spring).[1] He also chairs the IETF-LAC Task Force for LACNOG, with the objective of increasing the participation of people from Latin America and the Caribbean in the IETF.[1]

Career History[edit | edit source]

Retana is currently the VP of Technology Strategy, Future Networks at Futurewei Technologies, Inc.[2] Prior to his transition to Futerwei in 2017, he worked at Cisco for over twenty years.[2] He has also taught as an adjunct professor at Duke University and North Carolina State University[2]
