Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
The .kr domain name is restricted to use by companies, organizations, and individuals who have a postal address within the Republic of Korea.[2]
Second-level Domains[edit | edit source]
In the .kr domain, registration is available at the second level, or at the third level under a variety of use-restricted second level domains. As well as the SLDs listed below, there are region-specific SLDs for use by "any organization, company and/or individuals connected with that region" (seoul, busan, daegu, incheon, gwangju, daejeon, ulsan, gyeonggi, gangwon, chungbuk, chungnam, jeonbuk, jeonnam, gyeongbuk, gyeongnam, and jeju).

The requirements for third level domains are as follows:
- letters of the alphabet [A to Z] or [a to z], numbers [0 to 9], and hyphens are available for use for domain names.;
- domain name shall contain a minimum of 2 characters and a maximum of 63 characters.
- domain name shall not begin or end with a hyphen. Consecutive hyphens are not allowed between the third and the fourth characters.
