.pl is the ccTLD for Poland. It is managed by the Research and Academic Computer Network (NASK).[1] In Polish, NASK stands for Naukowa i Akademicka Sieć Komputerowa – Państwowy Instytut Badawczy.[2]
Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
DNS Abuse[edit | edit source]
The .pl domain Registry in particular seeks to reduce or eliminate the following illegal or unfair practices which grossly violate the provisions of the Regulations:
- using the .pl domain name to impersonate the systems of a legally operating entity in order to obtain confidential data in the so-called phishing techniques;
- using the .pl domain name to distribute malicious software, causing an unintended by the user and incompatible with their expectations action in the environment of their device;
- using the .pl domain name to command and control botnets, i.e. groups of centrally managed devices running unwanted and harmful for the users software;
- using the .pl domain name in actions aimed at gaining illegal access to other computers or networks.[2]
Second-level Domains[edit | edit source]
There are many available second-level domains. They are divided into two categories: the functional domain names and the regional domain names. Too see them all, please check the list of functional SLDs here and the list of regional SLDs here.
Characters[edit | edit source]
The Domain Name may consist exclusively of Latin alphabet letters, digits and the character "-".
The character "-" must not be placed at the beginning of the Domain Name, at the end thereof and on the 3rd and 4th position within the Domain Name concurrently (the only exception allowed is the Domain names with "xn--" prefix).[3]
IDNs can be registered in the ASCII form (there is no support for the Unicode form). IDN domain names may be registered through registrars, which signed with NASK the agreement on partner cooperation. There are various scripts available, but they cannot be mixed. [4]
The Domain Name may consist of up to 63 characters excluding the characters of .pl Domain or second-level domains.[3]
