.sy is the ccTLD for Syria. It is managed by the National Agency for Network Services (NANS).[1]
Delegation History[edit | edit source]
The .sy domain was initially delegated to the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Washington D.C., USA, in 1996. In 1997, it was redelegated to the Syrian Telecommunications Establishment (STE).
In 2009, the National Agency for Network Services (NANS) was established as a governmental entity. It was created as a provision of the Digital Signature and Network Services law, which assigns the Agency responsibilities including managing the Syrian ccTLDs (both .sy and the IDN version, سورية.), and defining policies and rules for domain registration.
On 5 October 2010, NANS commenced a request to ICANN for redelegation of the .sy TLD, which was granted.[2]
