Background[edit | edit source]
He was an ISOC Youth Ambassador to the IGF 2019, a NextGen@ICANN 76, and an ICANN Fellow in ICANN 79. His interests are mainly in intellectual property and Internet fragmentation, while he also played a role in the engagement of the Internet Governance youth community.
Within ICANN, his main areas of interest are related to UDRP and other RPM policies, but he is also involved with administrative matters and the New gTLDs: Next Round, specifically with the handbooks and other guiding materials to applicants.
Academically, Pedro is a Ph.D. Candidate (UFPR) researching Intellectual Property, specifically limitations and exceptions on copyright. He completed his LL.M. in Business Law at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. His background as a researcher is mainly reflected in his work as a member of the Research Group on Copyright and Industrial Rights of the Federal University of Paraná (Grupo de Estudos em Direito Autoral e Industrial - GEDAI/UFPR). He received the 2022 João de Oliveira Ascensão prize for best Intellectual Property thesis in Portugal, organized by the APDI (Associação Portuguesa de Direito Intellectual/Portuguese Association of Intellectual Rights). His publications can be found in his ORCID page
He was also part of ISOC's Youth SIG (now Youth SG) board from 2020-2022. As part of GEDAI/UFPR, he was also part of the civil society representation within the Brazilian Interministerial Group on Intellectual Property from 2021-2022, which is the highest consulting body for the Federal Government of Brazil on this subject.
Pedro was a fellow of LACNIC's "Programa Líderes", being selected to be part of the Policy Shapers program of the same institution.
Current roles and positions besides ICANN[edit | edit source]
Pedro has been a Board Member of Internet Society Brazil (Projects Director) since 2022, CC Brasil (Projects and Documentation) since 2021, the Brazilian Copyright Observatory Institute since 2020, and part of the organizing committee of the YouthLACIGF since 2020, being (formally) its coordinator in 2024. He is a member of ISOC's Nominations Committee for the 2023-2024 elections.
