From 2009-2010, he was a Member of CPR group at [[Afilias]]. He became the Technical Contact of ISC in 2009, prior to which he was the Senior Programme Manager for ISC for 6 years. In 1997, he joined [[RIPE NCC]] as a Network Engineer and worked there till 2002 in different positions including Database Group Manager and CTO. He worked at Rediris as a Network engineer for 4 months in 1997. He started his career as a System Administrator at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1995.

João Damas is currently Senior Researcher at APNIC. He is a member of ICANN's RSSAC, an RSTEP panelist and a root zone signing TCR. He participates in ISOC, RIPE, and ESNOG.[1] He is co-chair of the DNS wg at RIPE.[2]

João has contributed to RFC 4012 and RFC 5358. He can speak English, Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch.

Damas attends IETF,[3] ISOC,[4] and ICANN Meetings,[5][6] as well as other industry-related events.[7] He actively participates in ISC events.[8][9]
