.lv is the ccTLD for Latvia. It is managed by the University of Latvia Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, Department of Network Solutions (DNS).[1]
Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
The holder of the domain name under top-level domain .lv may be:
- a commercial entity registered in Latvia from the moment it is registered in the Enterprise Registry of the Republic of Latvia;
- a state or local government authority from the moment it is established;
- a foundation, an agency, a union or other entity established in accordance to the normative acts of the Republic of Latvia from the moment it is established;
- a natural person, who has reached 18 years of age;
- a commercial entity or organisation registered outside the Republic of Latvia from the moment it is registered.
A domain name shall be chosen in such a way as not to infringe the legitimate rights of other parties and not to violate the existing legislation of the Republic of Latvia. Also, domain names containing vulgarism, offensive names, expressions, or character strings in conflict with social or moral norms, shall not be registered.[2]

Form and technical requirements of the domain name:
- a traditional domain name shall be expressed in Latin characters (case insensitive), numbers and hyphen "-";
- non-Latin letters may be substituted with the respective Latin character. Special characters, spaces, and punctuations shall be eliminated or replaced with the hyphen;
- in the Latvian domain name at least one letter with a diacritical mark (ā,ē,ī,ū,ō,ķ,ļ,ņ,ŗ,ģ,š,č,ž) shall be used;
- the domain name length should not be shorter than 2 and longer than 63 characters;
