The .ps domain was first applied for in 1997, by a group of Palestinian technology professionals. This request was denied.

After a year of lobbying effort, .ps was reserved, but not granted. Following the UN Resolution that granted full membership to Palestine in 1999, .ps was listed in the ISO 3166 and the .ps was assigned to the Palestinian Occupied Territories.
