CAIP is the Canadian Association of Internet Providers, formed in 1996, with a goal to develop and expand the internet and online service industry in Canada. It focuses on bringing the Canadian and international issues of mutual interest together and resolving them with international assistance. It also aims at creating a safer internet, which is free from any abusive or illegal content which may affect the dignity of humans, and the citizens of Canada.

Objectives

  • To provide assistance: It supports the effective ideas which need to be enforced respecting public policy and regulatory issues such as access to internet, privacy, security and copyright issues, e-commerce usage. It supports any idea and policies which focuses for the development and growth of internet industry in Canada.
  • To promote internet and its use: It proactively plans events which will create awareness amongst the Canadians about internet and related services. Their main focus is to educate the masses on various issues regarding internet and CAIP and encourage the usage of the internet throughout the nation.
  • To share the internet related information amongst the members and users through regular communication.
  • To implement and create policies which are beneficial for not just the providers but also for users of internet services.


CAIP cooperates to increase the support of CATAAlliance, CATAAlliance is the largest high tech trade association. The collaboration of CAIP and CATA is to magnify the CAIP’s role through public affairs lobby which is acknowledged to be the best in its sector. [1]

The Code of Conduct

  • CAIP will cooperate with all the government administrators, internet services providers around the globe and different authorities responsible for maintaining law and order. Law authorities seek to clarify the responsibility for each of the different functions performed by internet companies.
  • CAIP members promise to abide by all the laws and regulation which binds these members to meet the CAIP set standards.
  • CAIP members are liable for educating public about the uses and misuses of the internet. They also are liable to educate the masses about various developments in internet technology
  • CAIP members will have to install a procedure which will keep the personal information of their users private and shall only be disclosed to the law enforcement authorities on demand.
  • CAIP members will not host any illegal or abusive content on the internet, but in fact report such hosting by any of the members of CAIP or even outside CAIP. Sharing this information will help to take actions against such criminal activities.
  • Though it is not possible to keep a vigil on all website content, the CAIP will take initiatives for legal actions on any website services who host illegal and abusive content which has been reported to them.
  • Before taking any action against the abusive content provider, the CAIP will comply the following procedures:
  1. Perform a review which will precisely provide information on the location and the nature of the abusive content.
  2. Use the consultancy of legal authorities regarding the abusive content.
  3. Provide a notification to the abusive content provider and give him a seven days time to reply, and then further initiate the proceedings of the legal actions. [2]
