At ICANN47 in Durban, dotHIV wants to draw your attention to the worldwide HIV epidemic. The city of Durban in the region KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, has the highest HIV prevalence in the world, with 40% of the adult population are living with the virus. This meeting is taking place in one of the epicentres of the worldwide epidemic.
dotHIV is the new gTLD applicant behind the Top Level Domain .hiv. They are working to establish .hiv domain names as digital "Red Ribbons" – signals of solidarity and hope – to raise awareness and funds for one of the biggest humanitarian challenges. At ICANN 47, they will be collecting donations towards the cause, with an end goal of $30,000.
