Keith Teare founded Archimedes Ventures LLC in 2005 and currently works there. Archimedes Ventures invests in and advises technology companies. Since the early 1980s he has founded and co-founded many companies in the UK as well as in the USA; and he holds dual citizenship for those two countries.

Past Work

CYBERIA, Cybercafe Ltd, which he co-founded in 1994, is said to be the world's first cybercafe. They franchsed it around the world, including in the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, Scotland, London, Dublin, Rotterdam.[2]

RealNames was quite successful in its time, though it stopped operating in 2002; it was involved with Microsoft browsers, had numerous international agreements, and supported the development of the IDNs with VeriSign.[3]

He was also on the board of directors for SnapNames and is currently an advisor of AboutUs.

Education

He received his high school education from Scarborough Sixth Form. He received his Bachelors degree in Sociology and Political Science from Kent University in 1977 and went on to receive his MPhil and PhD in Sociology from the same university in 1981.[4]

Awards

In 2001 he was awarded the Computerworld Smithsonian Laureate for his visionary use of information technology. This was awarded in recognition for his work in RealNames.

He received British Telecom award for innovation in 1996 For CYBERIA Cafe.
