Individuals must be adults with an address in Senegal.
A legal entity is represented by an individual, known as the administrative contact, who is duly authorized for this purpose. The applicant’s administrative contact must be based in Senegal.
Applicants for .sn domain names residing abroad are required to appoint a representative established in Senegal or, alternatively, provide an accreditation letter to the service provider to carry out the registration and management of their .sn domain name.
Domain names must not violate competition or trade rules, moral standards, public order, or the rights of third parties, particularly concerning the name, image, and reputation of any individual or legal entity.
Domain names must also not compromise national security, public order, the interests of the State and public authorities, or be contrary to morality and decency. They must also not infringe upon religion, language, culture, political opinions, or use terms with racist connotations.
Finally, a domain name must not aim to create or result in public confusion regarding any individual or legal entity.[2]
Reserved Domain Names[edit | edit source]
These are domain names whose registration is subject to specific conditions related to the applicant's identity and rights.
Some reserved domains are, for example, Internet technical terms (such as arpanet, inaddr, ipv6, icann, etc.), names of regulated professions (lawyer, surgeon, doctor, etc.), terms related to the functioning and institutions of the State (embassy, ministry, gendarmerie, etc.), city names (Dakar, Touba, Thiès, etc.), generic terms, and others.
They also include names that have been registered with national, regional, and international authorities responsible for trademark protection, in accordance with international conventions signed by the State of Senegal.[2]

The following second-level domains are available for registration:
- .univ.sn: for academies and public higher education institutions;
- .edu.sn: for educational and professional training institutions;

Characters[edit | edit source]
Domain names must contain no fewer than two (2) and no more than two hundred fifty-five (255) characters (63 between each "."). Also, a domain name can only be registered if it consists of a combination of the following characters:
- letters a to z. There is no distinction made between uppercase and lowercase;
- numbers 0 to 9;
- the hyphen "-" (which cannot be used at the beginning or end of a domain name).
Additionally, a domain name must not start with xn--.[2]
