.政务 is a Hans Chinese IDN Community Priority Application, translated as "government affairs", being proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant is China Organizational Name Administration Center.[1]
The application was issued a GAC Early Warning from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). The warning system is noted as a strong recommendation on behalf of national governments to the ICANN Board that a given TLD application should be denied as it stands. Applicants are encouraged to work with objecting GAC members.[2]
The warning states that the string is confusingly similar to existing government related TLDs and is not adequately restricted to official government entities, thereby creating the potential for misrepresentation as a government entity on the Internet.[3]
Community Application Details[edit | edit source]
"The name of the community that CONAC is committing to serve is “中国政务机构(Chinese Government Organization)”. All members are established by the Chinese Constitution..Today, there are approximately 400,000 organizations in the Chinese government organization community, with the majority located in China, as well as Chinese embassies and consulates in other countries and territories."
Registration will be restricted to verifiable government entities recognized as part of national or regional governments within China.
"Authorized by the China State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform (SCOPSR) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), CONAC officially represents the Chinese government organization community to carry out the operation of “.政务.cn” registry."[4]
