ICANNWiki talk:Community portal
Babel
I have added the categorization function in to the people template for country - so you don't need to add a the category country as it will populate automatically. Best, MarkDilley 2011
- Awesome Ray 2011
- But it does not automatically put this pages themselves in higher categories! Therefore all language categories show up in the Special:UncategorizedCategories and are not connected to the root category Category:Browse. --Manorainjan 14:22, 3 February 2017 (PST)

Who is online?
What about a display of this on the front page of the Community portal?
Which would require to install mw:Extension:WhosOnline... --Manorainjan 05:54, 5 February 2017 (PST)
I'm not entirely convinced this is a needed addition to our site. What is the value of this extension? Jackie Treiber (talk)
- I would not call it needed, rather useful. Obviously this wiki is not one of those where the daily edit-count is very high. There are prolonged periods when nobody is editing anything at all. But it is likely that people are reading the wiki. At least we do hope, it is an interesting read for many. Without any visible indicator that something is going on, one could think, it is a dead, closed or abandoned wiki which would be in sharp contrast to ICANN-related matters in general. This extension does not only show accounts of people who are editing. For that there would be Special:ActiveUsers a list of accounts from which edits came in the last 30 days. WhosOnline shows merely who was logged in in the last hour. One can configure if IP (not logged in readers) will be shown as well. --Manorainjan 11:55, 5 February 2017 (PST)
- I understand where you are coming from, but I do not think this is a feature that we will add to the wiki. I would prefer to allow users to browse without being identified as being online. I would like to emphasize a respect that the privacy of our readers is important. We would potentially consider an extension that showed how many people were currently online, but not something that lists usernames and IP addresses. Although, I still don't think that it would be very useful for us. I believe that the information on the homepage shows that we are active as an organization even during times when there is a low volume of edits. Dustin Phillips (talk) 06:42, 6 February 2017 (PST)
- For ICANNWiki I also would not suggest to show the individual IPs in a potentially very long list. That would be rather disturbing, too much information. To show this in an accumulated single number would be best, like "XXX guests online this hour." I do show this IPs on my brand new wiki only for my personal curiosity. My wiki is not for general public right now, still in the setup process. And even later the number of users will be less than 20 and only locals. So it shows only 1 or 2 IPs, no compare! --Manorainjan 08:05, 6 February 2017 (PST)
Questionable links in notifications
When I get an email in which a link is displayed, like:
than I expect that link to be exactly that and not any different one like that:
- https://u4726946.ct.sendgrid.net/wf/click?upn=u7htpVbrw4BUaGlJjI1wWdxxl7rxtpd5a3FBZwseKilT8t-2Fz1sUjNqzroAg37Czso0W4Koki8KumLyckWmDsLJMZAtafy0Ub6LPX0zFa60cHle9-2FCJSiFHkERPIJ1T3A_Y0kOdd02bkrjI59M6w0Nv3mRan5W97VZa3ShrGhodB9kxJXKoyScC33oqgdqUuB4jbVX1f-2FMyRVNxqg1AFabrE9IEjp-2FxauRiqsjRyi1FSBmewbJXeBJyryYypgZcq-2B4KMOlbm5Arivrg9edPVyqFgpPDx8fu7bHeeHyzkTMTmoEepmU-2BMSUGmfAWGsl-2FYcNFYf0-2Bl5-2Fo7Pwe2Vm1Qc-2FEh9pWf9EJwPb-2FXK6Xd9Cvfo-3D
The later one is the usual practice of SCAMers. And that's why my email client warns me of those kind of mails.
Please stop this privacy invading link fraud. --Manorainjan 17:25, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
