Karla Valente is the President and Co-Founder of DNSWomen aka Domain Name System Women, an organization which aims to provide encouragement, inspiration, and active support of women in the DNS industry. The organization began at ICANN in Mexico in 2009. She is also a member of the Board of Directors at Schola Cantorum.[1]
Valente worked for ICANN from September 2007 to November 2013, initially holding a role as Director of Product Services and Communications, then Director of the new gTLDs Program, then finally as the Director of gTLD Registry Programs.[2]

Karla holds an MA in International Relations and International Public Law from the University of Amsterdam and a Bachelor of Law (JD) from Brazil. She speaks several languages.[1]
Career History[edit | edit source]
Valente has been working in the domain name industry since 1998. She has established and supervised more than 160 worldwide partnerships. She has also assisted companies with matters like global branding and domain name portfolio development. For seven years, she has worked at Verisign as the Senior Product Manager.[3] In this position, she developed, deployed, and managed various TLD products and partnerships for the DBMSG. Karla has also worked as the Director of Global Service Development at 1GlobalPlace, Inc, where she was supervisor for the company's international operations. Additionally, she served as in-house co-counsel for international IP issues, supported the company's acquisition and transition processes of intellectual property assets. Prior to joining the TLD industry, Valente assisted companies with international expansion planning and provided cross cultural communications training.
She has attended over ten ICANN Meetings.[4]
