SnapNames was formed in 2000 by Oversee.net[2] to provide a specialized domain name backordering service. The company is located in Portland, Oregon. SnapNames gives a domain name buyer the ability to purchase, at auction, domain names that were thought previously to be registered and parked, but are now expired and pooled. SnapNames claims 100 million domain names sold at auction from just a few dollars to several thousand dollars. SnapNames is also an organizer of a registrar group consisting of Dotster[3], Register.com[4], Melbourne IT[5], DotRegistrar[6], DomainPeople[7], Moniker[8], DirectNIC[9] and others.

Accomplishments

January 24, 2008 SnapNames reaches $3 million dollars in sales. [10]

On July 16, 2009 SnapNames.com, in partnership with Moniker.com, began a monthly showcase auction to target corporate buyers. [11]
