The IGF's Youth Initiatives are designed to promote and engage young people in meaningful discussions about Internet Governance. National, sub-regional, and regional IGFs (NRIs), alongside these youth-focused efforts, are expected to operate in accordance with the fundamental principles of the IGF. This includes maintaining an open and inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are welcomed and valued. It also emphasizes a non-commercial approach and the active participation of all stakeholder groups, including governments, civil society, the technical community, and the private sector, throughout the planning and execution of events.

Both the Youth Initiatives and NRIs are guided by a bottom-up decision-making process, ensuring that the concerns and priorities of young people and other stakeholders are central to discussions and outcomes. By empowering youth to actively participate in Internet Governance, the Youth IGF initiatives seeks to build a more inclusive and representative digital future.
