Currently based in Cape Town, South Africa, Jo has worked in the African mobile and internet space for ten years and is passionate about the benefits the internet can bring and has already brought to many. She also has a research interest in the contrary perspective of how it can be used as a tool for control and deception.

Jo’s expertise sits at the intersect of communications strategy, marketing and internet technologies. She is currently working for a mobile entertainment platform focused on emerging markets and has previously worked for a mobile browser company and consulted to companies such Google, BlackBerry and the Governments of Kenya and Rwanda. 

Jo holds a Masters degree in Mass Communications and a Bachelors Degree in Linguistics and Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London. She is also currently studying for a Masters degree in Intelligence and Security with a focus on online propaganda and internet PSYOPs.
