.fo is the ccTLD for Faroe Islands. It is managed by the FO Council.[1]

Delegation History[edit | edit source]

In September of 1997, IANA approved a request for the establishment of the .fo ccTLD. Upon its establishment in September of 1997, the .fo ccTLD was delegated by IANA to UNI2 in Denmark. In December 2003, UNI2 requested a change to the FO Council to regulate .fo. ICANN discussed the change with the Danish government and final approval was received in September 2004. The FO Council accepted the request to be the new delegee.On 15 November 2004 the ICANN Board of Directors authorized the President to complete the redelegation process, which was approved by IANA.[2]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

The registrant has the responsibility to make sure that registration of the Domain Name does not go against the regulations of the Faroese legislation or the right of a third party.[3]

Characters[edit | edit source]

The Domain Name may include letters that are used in the Faroese and English alphabet, numbers, hyphens (-), however, a hyphen cannot be used as the first or last sign. The Domain Name may only use numbers. The Domain Name must not exceed 63 letters (including fo).[3]
