Mohammad Abdul Awal is a network professional, working for BdREN which is the National Research and Education Network of Bangladesh. There he leads the data and transmission network team. Over the past few years, he conducted several network workshops and tutorials at APRICOT, SANOG and bdNOG covering topics such as campus network design and operations, advanced BGP, MPLS, IPv6, network monitoring and management and network infrastructure security. He is a regular participant and speaker in national and international conferences on network technologies and best current operational practices.

Awal studied Electronics and Communication Engineering. His areas of expertise and major interests include IPv6, BGP, MPLS, Routing and Switching, Network Infrastructure Security, Internet Policy Development and Internet Governance. He is a CCNP and CCNA trainer at a local training institute based in Dhaka.

Awal is the coordinator of Bangladesh Youth Internet Governance Forum (bdYIGF) and is one of the chapter leaders of Internet Society Bangladesh Dhaka Chapter. He is a Multi-stakeholder Steering Group (MSG) member of Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF). He actively participates in local and regional Internet Governance dialogues. He is actively involved with Bangladesh Network Operators Group (bdNOG).

Awal founded Network Development Learning Center (NDLC), a not-for-profit initiative that aims to raise internet awareness and technical knowledge development among youngsters and students. He is a former fellow of APRICOT, APIGA, IETF, ICANN, APNIC, ISOC, APAN and inSIG. He is a NextGen@ICANN57 and a Youth IGF Ambassador.[1][2] He is a NextGen Ambassador at ICANN60.[3]
