Pavel Farhan is originally from Bangladesh, but grew up and resides in Bangkok, Thailand. He holds a master’s degree (M.Eng) in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). His research area includes Information-centric Networking (ICN-NDN), Internet/Network Architecture, and Internet of Things (IoT). Prior to becoming a grad student at AIT, he was an undergraduate at Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, majoring in Computer Engineering with a specialization in Pervasive Technology.
Besides the technical side of academia, Pavel has always aspired to become an advocate of ICT for development (ICT4D) in order to empower and help minority groups get their share of access to the Internet, while also trying to mitigate the gap between the gender and generational digital divides. As a result, he has been strongly involved in the Internet Governance community since APNIC48 in 2019, of which he was a conference fellow. Since then, he has received several other exemplary fellowships to attend APAN49, NextGen@ICANN68, APNIC52, APIGA 2021, inSIG 2021, ICANN73, and ICANN75.
Pavel also currently holds the designation of NetMission Ambassador from the 2019-2020 batch, as well as Digital Grassroots Ambassador for Cohort 5. Moreover, he has been engaged with Y4IG as an outreach member and in 2020, he was an organizing committee member for the virtual yIGF 2020, to support and encourage youth participation on Internet governance. He was also one of the speakers at the APrIGF 2021 panel session on “Why open and interoperable Internet infrastructure is key to the Internet’s continued success” and had the privilege to moderate a session at the APAC DNS Forum 2022 which was entitled: "Establishing a Trusted Notifier Mechanism to Fight DNS Abuse".
From October 2021 to April 2022, Pavel worked as an intern for the Office of ICT (OICT) at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Bangkok, Thailand.
