.ck is the country code top-level domain for the Cook Islands. It is managed by Telecom Cook Islands Ltd.[1] Vodafone Cook Islands, a telecommunications services provider,[2] is the only entity authorized worldwide to register domain names ending in .ck.[3]

Rules and Restrictions

Anyone can be a registrant of a .ck. However, the price is much higher for non-residents.

When registering, domain names considered offensive may be declined by the registry. Also, two letter country codes are not permitted.

A domain name will be deactivated if the registry considers it is being used for illegal purposes.[3]

Second-level Domains

There are 6 second-level domains available to the public to choose from. Although there are no specific criteria to use them, it is suggested that the registrant selects the one that fits best:

  • .co and .biz: organizations pursuing commercial aims and purposes;
  • .edu: education institutions and related organizations;
  • .org: not-for-profit organizations and interests;
  • .net: organizations and service providers with purposes related to the Cook Islands Internet;
  • .gen: individuals and organizations not covered elsewhere.

.gov.ck, however, is reserved for the Government of the Cook Islands.[3]

Characters

A .ck domain name can only consist of lowercase alphabetical or numeric characters and the dash hyphen “-”, and its maximum length is 63 characters.[3]
