.uy
.uy is the ccTLD for Uruguay. It is managed by SeCIU - Universidad de la Republica.[1]
Rules and Restrictions edit
The registration directly under .uy is for general use.[2]
The following expressions are not admissible as domain names:
- those that could be confused with state institutions or offices, or with international organizations, even if they pertain to different subdomains. Only national institutions may register names that represent the Uruguayan state or its departments;
- those contrary to morals and good customs;
- that are identical, analogous, or confusingly similar to any intellectual property rights.[3]
Second-level Domains edit
The following second-level domains are available for registration:
- .com.uy: for commercial entities not covered by other subdomains;
- .edu.uy: for educational institutions;
- .gub.uy: available exclusively for government institutions in the country; this condition must be demonstrated through a request sent on official letterhead from the government department requesting the domain registration;
- .mil.uy: available exclusively for the country’s military institutions; this condition must be demonstrated through a request sent on official letterhead from the military department requesting the domain registration;
- .net.uy: for companies providing Internet access services;
- .org.uy: for non-governmental and non-profit organizations (such as NGOs, clubs, and other civil associations).[3]
Characters edit
A domain name can consist of the following characters: numbers, letters, hyphens ("-"), and the following characters: á, é, í, ó, ú, ü, and ñ. Domain names may not start or end with a hyphen ("-"). Also, hyphens cannot in the third or fourth position.[3]
Domain names cannot start with the characters "xn--".[4]
