Gihan Das is a the head of Faculty of Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of Moratuwa.[1][2] He has been working at the University of Moratuwa sine 1985.[3] He is currently the Director of the Centre on Localised Applications at the University of Moratuwa.
Prof. Das is also a Domain Registrar and CEO at .LK Domain Registry. He is a member of the IETF IDNA Working Group and the Unicode Consortium. Prof. Das is an advisor to TechCERT, which is the first computer security readiness team in Sri Lanka[4]
Career History
Prof. Das is a pioneer in the introduction of networking in Sri Lanka. He was the manager of the Lanka Education and Research Network from 1995 to 2003. He has also been the Founder Programmer Direcotor of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka
He has edited several CSE Staff Research Publications.[5]
He has held different positions at LAcNet:
- President (1991-1992)
- Director (2000-2001)
- Director (2005-2006)[6]
Education
Prof. Das graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 1985 and then completed doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California in 1992.[7]
He can speak English and Sinhala.[8]
