Inspired by her own experience as a first-time ICANN meeting attendee at ICANN Seoul, Filiz established the Newcomers track and lounge for future first-timers.

Filiz participates in RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRONIC, ARIN, ISOC Turkey, and other IT groups in Turkey.

Career History

Prior to joining ICANN, Filiz was the Policy Development Manager at RIPE NCC, where she had the responsibilities of developing work-plan, managing the activities of Policy Development Office coordinating the bottom-up, consensus based Internet policy making process in RIPE region and ensuring successful implementation of the policies at the RIPE NCC. From 2001-2006, she was the IP Resource Coordinator at RIPE NCC.[2]

She started her career working at Middle East Technical University in 1996 as the User Support and Informatics Group Assistant Manager and then as a Research Assistant.[3] Her thesis, "A Computational Analysis of Information Structure in Turkish," was recognized as the Institute's thesis of the year.[4]

Education

She holds a BSc. degree in Mathematics and an MSc in Mathematics and Cognitive Science from Orta Dogu Teknik Üniversitesi.[5]
