Singapore Network Information Center - SGNIC is official registry service provider for .sg domain names in Singapore.[1] Besides this ccTLD it provides registration for .com.sg, .org.sg, .net.sg, .edu.sg, .gov.sg, and .per.sg. Its responsibilities also include the management of other information services and formulating policies regarding domain registration. In 1997 SGNIC was aquired by National Computer Board NCB which was later transferred to IDA when government merged NCB to Telecommunication Authority of Singapore.[2]
In February 2011, SGNIC auctioned premium domain names with single/double alphabet, single/double digits and other PDNs starting at the base price of SG$600 to SG$2000.[3]
SGNIC and ICANN edit
SGNIC is affiliated with ICANN. It signed an Exchange of Letters with ICANN in 2009 for the betterment of internet security in Singapore.[4] It hosted ICANN41 held in Singapore in June 2011.[5]

IDN edit
In June 2011 SGNIC announced the launch of Internationalized Domain Names which will be available for registration for everyone after December 2011. SGNIC will provide second level domains for .新加坡 and .சிங்கப்பூர் which represent Singapore in Chinese and Tamil respectively.[7]
