James Galvin is the Director of Strategic Relationships and Technical Standards at Afilias and the Vice Chair at ICANN SSAC. He is also a Board Director at Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra, the owner of eList eXpress LLC. At Afilias, Galvin manages the company's relationships with the Internet Community; he is also involved in improving Afilias technical leadership.[1] He participates in IETF, IEEE, and ACM.[2]
Dr. Galvin has been working with DNSSEC since its beginning. He chaired the working group that produced the first set of DNSSEC specifications, and managed the research group that produced the first public domain implementation of those specifications.[3]
Career History edit
James has been an active member of the IT and Internet industries for more than 3 decades. Prior to joining Afilias in 2009, he was a private technical consultant for 12 years. Before becoming the Vice Chair of SSAC in January 2011, Galvin was a member of the committee since 2002.[4] From 2004-2007, he was the Internet Program Manager at Shinkuro Inc. He has also served as VP Chapters and Individual Membership at ISOC, Chief Technologist at CommerceNet, Senior Computer Scientist at Trusted Information Systems - TIS (1989 – 1996) and Senior Software Engineer at The Wollongong Group (1988 – 1989).[5] He has been active in IETF for more than 20 years.[6]

He holds a Bachelors of Science with double major in Computer Science and Mathematics from the Moravian College, and a Masters in Computer Science and Information Systems from The University of Delaware. He also did a Ph.D at the University of Delaware.[7]
