Image Online Design
Image Online Design has operated the .web registry since 1995. It is the longest-standing prospective domain name registry on the Internet,[1]. .Web is one of ICANN's proposed new gTLDs, but Image Online Design's .web registry hosts 20,000 .web domains on a different root system.[2]

The company breaks down its mission into three categories:
- Resolution - Quick domain name resolves on their publicly available DNS servers.
- Restrictions - A lack of .web restrictions other than those imposed by Internet technical policy.
- Registrars - An intent to use ICANN-accredited registrars when possible.[1]
Image Online Design & ICANN
Image Online Design unsuccessfully applied for the .web gTLD in 2000 and sued ICANN in Fall 2012, citing a breach of contract and trademark infringement. It claimed that ICANN should never have allowed other companies to apply for the gTLD, and is seeking an injunction that prevents ICANN from awarding .web to another bidder and gives Image Online Design profits from the alleged trademark infringement. Its complaint cites an early ICANN meeting where the first proof-of-concept gTLDs were approved by the ICANN Board; the chair at the time, Vint Cerf, did not approve the .web application filed by Afilias because of the existence of Image Online Design's .web operations.[2]
Alternate root player Name.Space similarly sued ICANN in an attempt to prevent an additional 189 gTLDs from being approved.[2]
