PPC (Pay Per Click) represents an advertising method used on websites and search engines under the form of advertisements placed near search results. In this way, when a visitor clicks on these advertisement, the advertiser is paid an agreed amount each time a visitor clicks the advertisement. There are various types of PPC campaigns: getting charged for placement and paid for ranking. [1]

Short overview

PPC is also referred to as CPC (cost-per-click), but there are some differences between these two terms. By using PPC campaigns, advertisers pay their host only when the advertisement is clicked. In the case of search engines, the advertisers bid on a set of keywords relevant for their target market.

The PPC campaigns offer the possibility for affiliate programs which are effective pay-for-performance models through which the affiliate get paid once a purchase is made by means of their advertisements. If no sales are generated by the affiliate, this does not affect the merchant.

PPC vs. CPC

Each time a visitor clicks on the website by means of advertisements, a charge for a click it is being processed.

The main difference between PPC and CPC consists of the purpose of each of these methods: PPC describes the pay-per-click system and how PPC campaigns work, whereas CPC, cost per click, represents the amount of money that the advertiser is willing to invest each time someone clicks on the advertisements published. [2] Simply put, CPC represents the assessments of the costs related to advertisements and depends on competition level for a specific keyword.
