.sg
.sg is the ccTLD for Singapore. It is managed by the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) Pte Ltd.[1]
Rules and Restrictions edit
All persons may apply for Domain Names. However, foreign applicant must appoint and duly authorise a local agent as its administrative contact.
The domain names containing the following types of phrases may not generally be registered by members of the public:
- "Singapore", "Singapura", "Singapore Government", "Government" or "President", or any variations of the aforementioned words which whether on its own or together with any of the remaining portion of the Domain Name may suggest a link to the Singapore Government;
- words, names or phrases (whether they are full names, abbreviations or acronyms) which (i) on its own, (ii) together with any of the remaining portion of the Domain Name, and/or (iii) when put to use, may suggest a link to the Singapore Government, statutory bodies, regulatory authorities and/or agencies, and national controlling bodies;
- "SGNIC", "NIC" and other variations which may suggest a link to SGNIC;
- phrases which may be regarded as obscene, scandalous, indecent or contrary to law or morality in any language. If the label is in a language other than English, it is the applicant's duty to inform SGNIC as to what is the language and the meaning of the label in that language;
- phrases which are or which may represent geographical names or names of countries (e.g. Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, etc.) in any language, including without limitation to phrases identical to the two-letter country codes listed in ISO 3166 for second and third-level domain name registration. However, if the applicant can demonstrate to SGNIC that there are strong justifications for using the acronym, SGNIC will consider the registration of such names;
- phrases, which either on their own or in combination with other characters, may look similar to .com, .org, .net, .edu, .gov, or any other string which SGNIC has made available at the second-level at the time when you make your application;
- "www", "http", "https" or "http-www" and their variations; and
- phrases which, independently or together with any other portion of the Domain Name, or when put to use, are regarded by SGNIC as undesirable or unsuitable for registration for it would be likely to:
- cause confusion to the public;
- be contrary to the security, harmony or interests of Singapore;
- offend good taste or decency;
- offend religious beliefs; or
- be contrary to or diminishes any other social objectives, national social movements and/or any other efforts / endeavours associated with Singapore's government, statutory bodies, regulatory authorities / agencies and/or national controlling bodies.[2]
Second-level Domains edit
- .com.sg: applicants must be registered (or in the process of registering) with ACRA, Enterprise Singapore, or any relevant professional body in Singapore. Foreign corporations not registered in Singapore can apply if they appoint a local agent as their administrative contact. Additionally, divisions or departments of registered organizations, including government bodies, may apply if their parent organization provides written confirmation of the relationship;
- .org.sg: organizations registered (or in the process of registering) with the Registry of Societies (ROS) are eligible to apply for this category of Domain Names. Non-registrable entities under the Societies Act or Companies Act—such as community clubs, grassroots organizations, churches, and embassies—are also eligible. Additionally, divisions or departments of registered societies or government bodies can apply if their parent organization provides written confirmation of their relationship;
- .edu.sg: only educational institutions are eligible for this category of Domain Names. Applicants must be either registered with Singapore's Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social and Family Development, registered under the Private Education Act, or otherwise legally authorized to provide educational services in Singapore. Unregistered entities may also apply if they offer courses leading to certifications or qualifications recognized by a Singaporean government authority or receive support from a relevant government authority. Government body divisions or departments are also eligible to apply;
- .gov.sg: government bodies and members of the Singapore Government, such as statutory boards, are eligible to apply for this category of Domain Names. These bodies may also register Domain Names in other categories to reflect their identities or the specific services and schemes they offer;
- .net.sg: Infocomm Media Development Authority licensees (such as SBO individual licensees, FBO licensees, or those providing dedicated connectivity or value-added network services) and providers of network-based data hosting services (e.g., email, DNS, web hosting, and data centers) are eligible to apply for this category of Domain Names, provided they also meet the criteria needed to register under ".com.sg". The chosen Domain Name must closely reflect the applicant’s core business or company name and be used primarily for conducting the applicant’s business activities. Divisions or departments of government bodies may also apply.[2]
Characters edit
The domain name label under .sg may consist of (i) only Latin characters, (ii) both Latin and Chinese characters, and/or (iii) only Chinese characters.
Also, the label must contain at least one character and at most sixty-three characters. Acceptable characters are:
- letters a-z. Domain Names are not case sensitive;
- numeral digits 0-9
- hyphen character, provided it is not the beginning or ending character, or in the third and/or fourth position of the domain name label; and
- non-Latin characters of the type that may from time to time be accepted by SGNIC. To check the acceptable characters, the official SGNIC website must be consulted.[2]
