Asmus Freytag has been a software internationalization architecture consultant and a long-time contributor to the development of the Unicode Standard. He was involved in the founding of the Unicode Consortium.
Career History edit
Freytag was a Technical Vice President of the Unicode Consortium and its principal liaison to the working group of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC2. He served a term as president of the Association for Font Information Interchange and a board member of ASCENT. At Microsoft, he spearheaded the adoption of Unicode by Windows NT and encouraged independent software vendors to support the standard. He joined the I18N Directorate that advises IETF Area Directors on IDNs and other I18N issues.[1]

Freytag helped develop the "Procedure to Develop and Maintain the Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone in Respect of IDNA Labels". He also co-authored two RFCs: "Representing Label Generation Rules in XML" (RFC 7940) and "Guidelines for Designing Label Generation Rules Supporting Variants" (RFC 8228).
