Erik Huizer is an involved member of the ICANN community who has substantial board experience in ICT, internet, media, digital culture, and the creative industry. Since June 2012, he has been the CTO of SURFnet, the advanced[1] Dutch education and research network, and he has also been a Professor of Internet Applications at Utrecht University since May 2005.[2][3]

He has been a member of the board with PIR since January 2007, and with SIDN, the .nl ccTLD registry from March 2006 to April 2014.[2] He is also the Chair of the Dutch IPv6 Task Force[3] and chairs the advisory council for the Dutch national cyber security center (NCSC). Huizer serves as Scientific Captain of the Dutch Creative Industries top sector.[4]

Huizer is a regular ICANN Meeting attendee who has been to over twenty conferences and who served on the ICANN strategy panel that studied "ICANN’s Role in the Internet Governance Ecosystem".[5]

He has also attended IGF, WSIS, and IETF.[3] From 1991 till 1995 he served as an Area Director for the Applications area of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and as such as a member of the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG). From 1995-2002 he was a member of the Internet Architecture Board. From 1999 till 2002 he was chairman of the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF). He served on the ISOC Board of Trustees from 2002 till 2007. He is still a member of the ISOC advisory council. [4]

He was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2014.[4]

His goals for the future include "fighting for an open, accessible, and trustworthy internet", as well as "getting all the world's NGOs online".[3][6]
