In a news release from May 13, 2016, ICANN announced that Grogan will step down from his position as Chief Contracting Counsel. From August 1 2016 to December 2016, Grogan will continue his work in a part-time capacity. In regard to his departure Grogan stated "My decision to leave was highly personal and difficult, but it will allow me to pursue other opportunities in my life," and that "It has been a privilege to work with the dedicated staff at ICANN and I specifically want to commend the Contractual Compliance team for their extraordinary work.
