Any person or company can register a .do domain name.
NIC .DO may suspend, block, cancel, transfer or take ownership of any domain name under the .do ccTLD when NIC .DO, in its sole discretion, determines that such domain name is been used in activities that may put at risk or affect the stability, integrity or security of both NIC .DO and its Registrars, Registrants and Internet users in general. Such activities include, without limitation, the following:
* phishing;
* pharming;
* malware dissemination;
* FAST FLUX HOSTING;
* DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service);
* botnetting;
* hacking malicious.
=== Reserved Domain Names ===
NIC .DO maintains a list of names that cannot be registered as domain names (Reserved Names) as being related to or refer to, including but not limited to:
* the structure of IANA;
* the structure of ICANN;
* Internet Terms;
* existing gTLDs and ccTLDs, proposed in the process of been approved by the competent authority;
* terms reserved for NIC .DO operation.

To register a domain name under the ccTLD .do you must choose one of the permitted subdomains, namely:
* .edu.do: educational institutions or research;
* .com.do: business entities;
* .org.do: nonprofit organizations;
* .net.do: network service providers;
* .web.do: web services organizations;
* .art.do: art institutions;
* .sld.do: health institutions.
Domain names under classifications ".gob.do", ".gov.do" and ".mil.do" will only be delegated to military and government institutions of the Dominican Republic, and their delegation has additional requirements that must be met at the time of the request.

The characteristics that a domain name must fulfill are the following:
* the total length of the domain name must not exceed sixty-three characters;
* the minimum length for second-level domains is two letters characters;
* the minimum length for third-level domains is one character;
* valid characters are numbers (0-9), English alphabet letters and hyphen (-);
* in the case of the dash (“-“), it cannot go at the beginning or the end of the character combination that is requested, nor can it be used in the third and fourth positions simultaneously. For example “xn--1k2n4h4b.
