On June 23, 2003, ICANN released the Request For Proposal (RFP) for the establishment of new sponsored top level domain names. The RFP emphasized that the requirements to operate a new sTLD is rigorous ad only applicants with high qualifications that will meet or exceed the selection criteria will be accepted.
