.fi
Appearance
.fi is the ccTLD for Finland. It is managed by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom).[1]
Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
Companies, organizations and private persons, regardless of their domicile, can all have .fi domain names registered for them.[2]
The registrant is responsible for making sure that the domain name is lawful. A domain name might be lost if the registered domain name infringes someone else's name or trademark in Finland or within the EU.
Protected names and trademarks include:
- names entered into the Finnish registers of trade, foundations or political parties;
- names entered into the Finnish trademark register;
- trademarks entered into the trademark register of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO);
- names of public body or its bodies;
- names of diplomatic missions of foreign states or their bodies;
- established names, secondary marks or trademarks referred to in the Business Names Act or Trademarks Act.[3]
Characters[edit | edit source]
- A domain name shall include at least two but no more than 63 characters;
- the permitted characters for a domain name, i.e. the letters a to z, the numbers 0 to 9 and the hyphen-minus character.
- characters from national alphabets (Swedish, Finnish and Sami) are permitted, namely: á, â, ä, å, č, đ, ǥ, ğ, ǩ, ŋ, õ, ö, š, ŧ, ž, ʒ and ǯ.
- it is provided that a domain name must not begin with the characters xn--. The reason for this is that these characters have been reserved as the prefix of an ACE (ASCII Compatible Encoding) format internationalized domain name (IDN) containing national characters. The ACE format of a domain name containing national characters always begins with the characters xn--.[4]
