.md is the ccTLD for Moldova. It is managed by IP Serviciul Tehnologia Informatiei si Securitate Cibernetica.[1]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

.md is an Open Use ccTLD. Registrants for the registration of subdomain names can be:

  • natural/legal persons, resident/non-resident citizens of the Republic of Moldova;
  • institutions of central and local public administration of the Republic of Moldova;
  • natural/legal persons from outside the Republic of Moldova;
  • legal representatives of the entities/persons referred to in points 1), 2) and 3), authorised under the legislation of the Republic of Moldova.[2]

A domain name must not:

  • infringe trademark and intellectual property rights protection legislation;
  • infringe the legislation on the protection of geographical indications, designations of origin and traditional specialities guaranteed;
  • incite hatred, discrimination of any kind, violation of public order or violence;
  • harm the psycho-emotional integrity of people, especially minors.[2]

Characters[edit | edit source]

The subdomain name must:

  • consist of alpha-numeric characters (Arabic numerals: 0-9, Latin letters: a-z; A-Z, without diacritics) and the spelling sign ( - ) and/or their combination. Small characters (a-z) are recommended, as subdomain names do not take into account upper or lower case characters;
  • not begin or end with the spelling sign ( - );
  • have the minimum of 2 (two) characters and maximum of 63 (sixty-three) characters.[2]

As of 2024, .md has approximately 30,000 active domains.[3]
