TCRA or Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority is an organisation that is not dependent on any other and which was set up in accordance to TCRA Act No. 12[1]which came into existence in the year 2003. The company operates within Tanzania and deals with postal broadcasting and communications by means of electronic devices. The authority was formed when Tanzania communication commission and the Tanzania Broadcasting commission coalesced.[2] The organisation is regulated by the government of Tanzania and is answerable to Communication and Technology Ministry.

The organisation came into existence in November 1, 2003.[3] The organisation has no influence anywhere other than in the Republic of Tanzania. The organisation has its headquarters in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. It does not have a base anywhere outside Tanzania. To refine the field of communication the authority has put forward various rules and regulations. Lot of efforts have been put in by the authority to develop various forms of electronic communication in the African state but they still face many hurdles when it comes to the rural areas of the state.[4]

History

The authority came into existence on November 1, 2003 when Tanzania Communication commission and Tanzania Broadcasting collated. It is headquartered in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. It is set up with the terms of TCRA Act No 12. The aim of the company is to improve the means of communication within the republic. For this many regulations have been implemented.

  • Keep tariff of various services in check and prevent them from rising.
  • To take care of the activities which Tanzania Communications Commission and Tanzania Broadcasting Commission were involved.
