Ana Cristina Amoroso is the Head of International Affairs at UMIC-Knowledge Society Agency in Portugal, a public agency coordinating policies for the Information Society. Ms.Amoroso represents Portugal on ICANN's GAC, and in a number of other international organizations, such as; the EU, OECD, and UN. Ms. Neveswas the Counsellor for S&T, Space, Education and Information Society in the Permanent Representation of PT to the EU from 2002-2008 where she negotiated all WSIS process based in Brussels.
She was involved in the three Portuguese Presidencies of the Council of the EU (1992, 2000 and 2007) and in 2007 she chaired the Research Working Party (WP), the Joint Atomics Questions-Research WP, the Ad-hoc WP on EIT, the Education Committee (Higher Education) and the Telecom/Information Society WP (chaired the Information Society part). She negotiated with the Council and the European Parliament bringing closure to a number of complex files such as the Regulation establishing the EIT (The European Institute of Innovation and Technology), “ARTEMIS”, “ENIAC”, “IMI” and “Clean Sky” Joint Technology Initiatives, the Decision on “Ambient Assisted Living” and paved the way towards the decision on “Eurostars”. She also negotiated several files, adopted as Council Conclusions, such as “The Future of Science and Technology in Europe”, the “Scientific Information in the digital age: access, dissemination and preservation”, the “Modernising universities for Europe’s competitiveness in a global knowledge economy” and on “Nanosciences and nanotechnologies”.
Prior to that position, she was Advisor on International Affairs to the Portuguese Minister of Science and Technology (1997-2002). She joined the public administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 1991. She is currently PhD Student in “European Studies - Economics” at the “Universidade Católica” in Lisbon and holds a MSc. in “International Economics”, from “Universidade Técnica de Lisboa - Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (ISEG)”.
