Joash Ntenga Moitui is an experienced analyst and researcher on issues of governance, human rights, conflict, public policy and ICT policy at the Carter Centre Election Observation Mission[1]. Previously, he served as a research fellow at the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies in Kenya[2].

He is an expert in governance and development environment possessing strong technical skills in programme design, proposal development, implementation, evaluation, assessment, strategic planning and accountability[3].

He is author of "The nexus between Security Sector Reform, Human Development and Economic Growth in Kenya"[4].

ICANN and Internet Governance Participation[edit | edit source]

ICANN 59 Johannesburg, South Africa was his first ICANN Meeting[5].He has been involved in ICANN Wiki Swahili Translation Project in East Africa focused on creating a pool of Swahili translators and contributors through capacity building sponsored by ICANNWiki (USA), University of Dodoma (Tanzania), and Centre for Youth Empowerment and Leadership (Kenya). Joash is a active member of the Global Internet Governance Academic Network[6].

He has been active in the Internet Governance Space. In 2016, he was the International Development Research Centre(IDRC) / Research ICT Africa 2016 IGF Fellow, in Guadalajara, Mexico[7] He is also an African School of Internet Governance (AfriSig Fellow) with Association of Progressive Communications (APC) in South Africa[8] and an active member of the Kenya ICT Network (KICTANET)[9].

He has been involved widely in social media research, particularly wth the Economic Social Research Council (UK) that focused on the growing use of social media in the political landscape in Kenya and the role it plays in political violence in Kenya. He is also an associate of Nendo, a digital social media strategy, and research think-tank.

He is an active member of the Internet Society of Kenya and Cameroon and has been vocal on internet shutdowns experienced in Africa at UN Internet Govenance Forum.[10]

Moitui has several degrees, including:

Bachelor's Arts in Applied Anthropology, Moi University Kenya

MSc in Governance and Regional Integration Pan Africa University, Insitute of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences at Africa Union Commission. He currently intends to pursue his PhD studies

He is a certified Project Management in Development from APMG, USA and alumni of International Global Leadership Institute (IGLI), USA

He is a contributor to the book, 'Corporate Espionage Geopolitics and Diplomacy Issues in International Business, IGI Global (USA)[11] and co-author of 'Social media and public policy in the developing world. A Model for Africa Integrative Perspective[12]' published in the Consilience Journal, Columbia University, USA. He has reported extensively on radicalisation and terrorism in Africa and has more than 11 publications in peer reviewed journals and research books.

Among his articles on public policy, human rights, peace and conflict are available on the Organization for World Peace blog[13], Pambazuka, a Pan-African Voices Blog[14] and Europa World Book Series (USA)

Awards[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Joash was awarded a scholarship by the African Union Commission to study a Msc in Governance and Regional Integration, in Cameroon.
