Application Details
The following is excerpted from the applicant's response to question #18:
"The new gTLD proposed by SAMSUNG SDS has purpose in protecting online brand of SAMSUNG Group including SAMSUNG by defending abusive registration by third parties and further raising global awareness by domain usage utilizing company name.
Main users of the new gTLD proposed by SAMSUNG SDS will be SAMSUNG SDS, SAMSUNG group and its affiliates, and each main users is expected to utilize characters containing product or service or name of a board member such as product-name.SAMSUNG(or product-name.삼성) or director-name.SAMSUNG(or director-name.삼성).
The new gTLD proposed by SASMSUNG SDS will mainly be utilized as a marketing method. Domain that is a combination of brand and company name or board member name essentially blocks registration by a third party, as well as maximizing marketing effect of companyʹs reputation as the domain composed of characters containing product or service name is expected to be used worldwide.
For the stable operation of the new gTLD propose by SAMSUNG SDS, the Registry System utilizes system of Korea Internet & Security Agency (hereinafter referred to as ʺKISAʺ), and personnel required for registry system operation are supported. KISAʹs system is composed in dual system and backup system that ensures continuity of operation. As KISA is an affiliated organization of Korea Communications Commission by the law, this means that the nation ensures continuity of registration operation. KISA has recently been recognized for stable operation of Koreaʹs national domain .kr for the last 25 years, recently receiving Certificate of Merit from ICANN."[2]
