.ua

From ICANNWiki

.ua is the ccTLD for Ukraine. It is managed by Hostmaster LTD.[1]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

To register a private domain name directly under .ua, registrants must hold legal rights to a trademark (Mark) protected within Ukraine, either via a local certificate or the Madrid Agreement. The domain name's spelling must match the Mark, adhering to specific guidelines on permissible characters, transliteration, and the handling of special symbols. Further, applications must include documentation proving legal protection for the Mark, ensuring its exclusive use in the domain.

Procedures are also established for transliterating Cyrillic characters to Latin and managing symbols unsuitable for domain inclusion. Registrants may choose from several officially approved transliteration standards. These standards ensure consistency in how Cyrillic characters appear in Latin-script domain names, maintaining both recognizability and legal alignment.

For symbols ineligible for domain names, such as "&", "/", ".", "@", and spaces, the policy allows registrants to either substitute them with English-word equivalents (e.g., "&" becomes "and") or omit them entirely. Registrants can also choose to mark substituted terms with hyphens on both sides (e.g., "&" as "-and-") for added clarity. Roman numerals in Marks are optionally converted to Arabic numerals in the domain name upon written request to the domain administrator.[2]
