.madrid is new GeoTLD proposed to ICANN's new gTLD expansion program by Punto Madrid, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting business, social, cultural, internet and new technology communities in Madrid. Punto Madrid's initiative to apply for the .madrid string is led by Alexander Siffrin of Key-Systems; Jose Lagos of Dinamiq and Jose Maria Santo Tomas of Estudio Juridico Serrano Internacional; they serve as the organizations' president, vice president and secretary respectively.[1]

It is a Community Priority Application. Community membership is determined by: "residence in the Madrid area, or; the pursuit of lawful business activities in the Madrid area, or; the pursuit of cultural leisure, and sport activities in the Madrid area, or; any other kind of direct or indirect presence that is generally accepted as legitimate for, and conducive to the welfare of, the Madrid area."

"The Government of the Region of Madrid has entrusted the Communications and Computer Agency of the Region of Madrid (ICM), the task of governing body for the management and running of the domain name “.madrid”."

Valid registrations will be confirmed via a statement of intent and proof of an administrative contact in the Madrid area. Enforcement will be a post-validation after the full launch of the TLD.[2]
