The Internet Governance space is known for being highly technical and obscure, preventing general understanding of the issues involved, which are in fact pertinent to the daily lives of all Internet citizens and those still waiting for Internet access. We break these concepts down and work with the community to provide the resources they need, appealing to both newcomers and veterans of the space.

The Internet Governance space is known for being highly technical and obscure, preventing general understanding of the issues involved, which are in fact pertinent to the daily lives of all Internet citizens and those still waiting for Internet access. We break these concepts down and work with the community to provide the resources they need, appealing to both newcomers and veterans of the space.

The ICANNWiki team is steered by founder [[Ray King]], and predominantly led by FT Editor & Community Manager, [[Jonah Geil-Neufeld]]. It relies heavily on the PT support of [[Vivian Hua]] for the production of its compelling material giveaways, newsletters, and other collateral. There are former team members and long-time supporters that continue to contribute.

The ICANNWiki team's time is spread across 4 main areas:

* '''ICANN Meetings''' - There are 3 ICANN meetings held per year, often in very disparate locations as per ICANN's mandate to be a global organization. Generally, two ICANNWiki team members travel to these meetings to interact with the constituents. This involves creating new articles on the participants themselves; updating their info on people, organizations, or initiatives through interviews; educating about the site and its mission; and generally providing help to both newcomers and frequent attendees. It is one of the project's largest expenditures but it represents a significant and important opportunity to work with the community in a real time, face-to-face mode.

This is a significant undertaking, and the launch of the New gTLD Program, has seen the site explode by the thousands of pages as we track applicants, their applications, and the nuances of the entire process.

ICANNWiki insists upon on neutral and documented information and edits pages as they are created or updated by community members. This is a significant undertaking, and the launch of the New gTLD Program, has seen the site explode by the thousands of pages as we track applicants, their applications, and the nuances of the entire process.

* '''Community Building''' - Jonah and Ray spread the good word about ICANNWiki at ICANN events and remotely, both showcasing its current offerings and asking for input. The issues covered on ICANNwiki are relevant to the whole world, and it is the ICANN veterans and career [[DNS]] folks that are often the most influential or educated about the topics. Thus, engaging those that are closest to the material is a necessary part of creating equal access to information for those that do not have the same perspective or understanding of those closest to the world Internet Governance. However, given that Industry Governance spans all types of stakeholders, even those long-time participants may need help in understanding the work that is being done by other groups within the larger ecosystem. Furthermore, Community Building also begins with the newcomers, and after we have helped bring new people into the world of Internet Governance, we hope that they are able to improve our content and keep us relevant for the next newcomer on the horizon.

 

* '''Sponsorship Outreach''' - ICANNWiki is able to function, and pay for its staff and participation at ICANN events, thanks to the generosity of its sponsors. The [[sponsorship|sponsorship program]] offers a number of tiers, with the benefits ranging from a show of support to special giveaways to be produced and given away by the ICANNWiki team. Thus, while Jonah and Ray are often engaging potential sponsors on the benefits, Vivian is creating unique content to be branded as a show of thanks to those that support the project. While the team would love to focus on other site and project developments outside of funding, we highly value our sponsors and appreciate their contributions and consequently work very hard to provide as great a benefit as we can.
