'''Jaap Akkerhuis''' is a Research Engineer at NLnet Labs, <ref>[http://nl.linkedin.com/pub/jaap-akkerhuis/3/687/340 linkedin.com]</ref> a small research and development group that focuses on IT development.

Jaap has been instrumental in the development of the Internet in the Netherlands and in Europe since the early 1980s. After a period of seven years in the US where he was active at the Information Technology Center from CMU, mt Xinu, and [[AT&T Bell Labs]], he returned to the Netherlands where he joined the first independent [[ISP]]. Later he worked as a Technical Advisor for [[SIDN]], the registry of the .NL [[ccTLD]].

He has served in [[ICANN]]'s [[SSAC]] since its inception and is co-chair of the [[RIPE]] [[DNS]] working group, and he has also served as a co-chair for the [[IETF]] ProvReg Working Group.<ref>[http://www.icann.org/en/committees/security/ icann.org]</ref> He is a regular consultant for [[ICANN]] and a member of the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency.
