Experience in Intellectual Property

Has worked extensively as a trade mark attorney since qualifying in 1972, both in private practice and in-house, dealing with all aspects of trade mark law and management, as well as related branding, corporate identity, copyright and other legal issues. Also called upon to speak at various conferences in the UK, Belgium, Spain and Canada on trade mark and anti-counterfeiting issues.

At GKN plc managed worldwide trade mark registration programme, advised on various acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and licences, and managed anti-counterfeiting activity.

At British Telecommunications plc was responsible for clearance and protection of new corporate identity, advised on joint venture and distribution agreements, and managed numerous trade mark disputes.

At Rover Group Limited was responsible for major registration and enforcement programmes to protect the Rover, Land Rover, Mini & MG brands worldwide, plus two major global name creation programmes. Also created the name Freelander, obtained trade mark registration for the shape of the classic Mini automobile, started worldwide merchandise licensing programme, and managed international trade mark dispute with major competitor.

Has wide experience in practising before the British Trade Marks Registry and Community Trade Mark Office, as well as in dealing with trade mark protection issues internationally.

Also has acted as Examiner (Foreign Law Paper) for Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys.

Currently visiting lecturer at Manchester University Law School.

Experience in Cout Litigation and Disputes

Has conducted numerous cases as trade mark attorney, both in the UK and numerous countries overseas, with particular emphasis on Far Eastern counterfeiting and piracy in South America, Africa and Asia.

Dealt with counterfeiting and trade mark infringement cases worldwide, as part of which has travelled to Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, Panama, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, France and Italy.
