New gTLDs

planet.ECO LLC is one of the four applicants for the .eco string as part of the New gTLD Program. The small disadvantaged business paid the required $185,000 application fee to ICANN, and has successfully completed an extended and detailed evaluation, requiring over $10 million in guaranteed committed funds, by ICANN.

planet.ECO LLC is the exclusive US Trademark holder of ECO(R) . The company filed an infringement case against Big Room Inc. and Dot Eco LLC on March 2, 2012. The complainant asked the court to order Big Room Inc. and Top Level Domain Holdings Ltd. (presently Minds + Machines Group Limited (MMX)) to stop submitting further documentation and withdraw their application for the .eco string with ICANN. Dot Eco LLC responded to the complaint with an argument that the trademark was obtained illegally by planet.ECO and it should be cancelled by the court. Dot Eco also argued that the complainant is is trying to prevent competition. On the other hand, Big Room filed a motion to dismiss because of lack of jurisdiction.

Both parties, Big Room Inc. and Dot Eco LLC, also filed several complaint for the cancellation of the .ECO trademark with the US Trademark Trial and Appeal Board then later withdrew all filings, with the exception of one dismissed with prejudice by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

On August 10, 2015, in spite of numerous attempts at filings for cancellation of the .ECO trademark, the United States Patent and Trademark office determined the .ECO trademark registration has met all registration requirements to be acknowledged as an Incontestable trademark - Section 15 of the Trademark Act, 15 U.S.C. §1065.

Environmental Issues Awareness

planet.ECO LLC was present at the GBK Gifting Lounge at the Emmy Awards in September 2013. From the company's press release: "Starting with the 2013 Emmy Gifting Lounge, nearly 100 celebrities signed on to show how much they CARE about the planet with planet.ECO®. We are gathering 1,000,000 signatures on our Wall of Care showcasing people around the globe who CARE about our planet." states Jean William, planet.ECO’s CEO. "planet.ECO is showcasing those that CARE while making eco friendly and sexy. We have created a communication platform where people, companies, and organizations can show they CARE, encourage others to CARE, learn how to CARE, and how they can take action to help the environment and combat climate crisis."

The company was also present at the GBK Golden Globe Gift Lounge. Over 100 actors, celebrities, and studio executives stopped by planet.ECO's booth to sign the .ECO Wall of Care and chat about why they care about the planet and the environment. Some of the celebrities that attended the GBK Golden Globe Gift Lounge include: RJ Mitte of “Breaking Bad,” which won Best Drama TV Series, Megan Hayes from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and Michael Rooker from "The Walking Dead."
