The .ae domain was originally delegated to UUNET, but after a brief period of administration by the United Arab Emirates University, was transferred to Etisalat in 2005, with the recognition that the domain should be administered within the country. Since that time, Etisalat, through its division in the UAEnic, has been responsible for the operation of the domain name. Its re-delegation faced some obstacles due to the lack of clear community support in the region.[1]
