In 1988, Dr. Vivekanandan started teaching about internet governance and cyber laws to law students and working professionals in the four cities India. Since 2001, he is serving as Professor and Head of NALSAR Proximate Education, University of Law and IP Chair Professor of Intellectual Property Rights of Ministry of Human Resources Development for the government of India since. Prior to this position, he was the Dean of Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law at IIT Kharagpur and  Head of the Distance Education Department of the National Law School of India in Bangalore.<ref>

In 1992, Dr. Vivekanandan started his teaching career as a faculty member of the National Law School of India, Bangalore.In 1992, he started working for the Dalal Street Journal as Bureau Head. He later became Editor and Publisher of Inde Global Communications. In 2008, he was one of the participant at the Hague Conference on Private International Law on Online Jurisdiction Issues on Legal information. In 2010, he became the Director of the Legal Information Institute of India.
