From 1989 to 1994, he was a Teaching Fellow and Research Worker at the City University of London where he acquired his interest in the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in engineering. Dr Mshana  undertook work as a consultant and a manager of various projects during this period of "ICT revolution".
